"Life is challenging. Over the course of my career, I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to witness profound growth in my clients, students and colleagues. Resilience humbles me. We are stronger than we realize."
My Story
In 2019, I walked the 500 mile pilgrimmage across the north of Spain known as the Camino de Santiago. On the morning of May 31, I laced up my hiking boots, and set out alone on a journey that would change my life. As I walked from Sant Jean Pied de Port across the French Pyrennes, through lush green vineyards and dry, sun soaked plains, I learned that life is lived in moments, one step at a time.
The Camino is a metaphor for life. While there was indeed joy in walking across Spain, many of those steps were also difficult. On my first night, I was robbed as I slept, along with a number of my fellow pilgrims. I developed blisters so painful that I was not sure I could continue. There were many hellos and goodbyes, and while I met people who would become my Camino family, I also struggled with loneliness as I learned, perhaps for the first time in my life, what it meant to be comfortable in my own skin.
It is these lessons and others that I bring into my therapy. The knowledge that life is a struggle. That we must face it step by step. And the wisdom that comes when we lean into the discomfort, and learn to grow. Life is a journey, taken step by step.
